This summer, Guy Deloach and 2007 graduate Jonathan Kist led Lee University’s first cross-cultural trip to Singapore. The eighteen business students spent six weeks studying business and working with Schering-Plough, an international pharmaceutical company.

The students were divided into groups and assigned various different jobs within the organization. Working with the department supervisors, they were able to work within the native culture. They gave a presentation at the end of their stay at Schering-Plough detailing what they had learned and their own insights about the business. The students stayed at the Rasa Sentosa Resort in Sentosa. However, they were also able to explore much of the island, as well as making forays into Malaysia and Thailand. Students also had the opportunity to be certified in scuba-diving.

Speaking of the trip, Lee University faculty member Dewayne Thompson noted, “This is one of the best cross-cultural trips the university has to offer because these students are working side-by-side with Singaporeans for eight hours a day for four days a week for five weeks. They had the opportunity to grow socially, as well as apply academic principles within the facility.”
